Happy Match Day! FPMD Out of the Shadows Report

Hello everyone, it's been over 6 weeks since I stepped back from writing 3 times a week. It may sound like a long time in internet time. But to be honest, the last 6 weeks went by in a blur for me. Here's a brief out-of-the-shadows update in case you're interested in what I've been up to.

First - Happy Match Week!

March 12-16, 2018 was the biggest week in the young professional lives of 4th year medical students around the country. If you are a 4th year medical student reading this post, I hope you matched to your top-ranked training program. Here are some FPMD articles which may be helpful for those of you transitioning from schooling to training:

Next - I've been busy

Part of me imagined stepping back from the blog would have given me more free time to do... well... nothing. I couldn't have been more wrong. As it turned out, I just ended up filling those hours with other things. On the career front, as I finish up my radiology residency and prepare for my interventional radiology fellowship, my medical knowledge has taken a hockey stick turn up. It is truly amazing how many lightbulb moments I've had in the last 2 months while learning about interventional radiology. Part of it is over time, the seemingly random pieces of knowledge I've been shoving into my brain are finally starting to link together. Part of it is my residency program has recently brought on staff 3 new IR faculty who are amazing teachers and mentors.

On the FPMD front, I attended the first ever White Coat Investor Conference in Park City, UT from March 1-4, 2018. two of my good friends flew in from California to join me. It was a grand time. The sessions and speakers were designed more for practicing physicians rather than trainees. Nonetheless, I learned something new. For example, the talks on social security given by The Oblivious Investor and medicare given by The White Coat Investor were excellent and offered me some solid learning on topics I wasn't well versed in.

I also attended the annual Doximity Leadership Summit in San Francisco, CA from March 11-12, 2018. I've been working with Doximity for some time now and it was great to finally meet many of the people I have been corresponding with. Unfortunately most of what I learned during the weekend is proprietary and confidential, but I do want to share with you this super useful app which is available now - Doximity Dialer. Honestly I'm a bit embarrassed I hadn't found out about it until now. The Doximity Dialer allows you to call patients from your personal phone without giving out your personal number. Best of all - it's FREE! Also, I may have found my favorite piece of wall decoration from Doximity HQ. I'm seriously considering getting one for my future office.
